At the 2nd Vancouver International Mining Conference at the AME BC Round Up: “Mining in Russia and Eurasia: Investment Climate, Opportunities and Innovation Technologies Transfer”
Malathi Ravishankar, our new Senior Mining, Oil & Gas Recruiter and I had the chance to meet with senior executives from both the Canadian and Russian’s largest mining companies.
I was very impressed by Vancouver based company, Global Cobalt Corporation President and CEO Erin Chutter’s presentation of how her company spent considerable time and effort to develop strategic partnerships with major stakeholder organizations in Russia, Europe and China which resulted not only in investments, but also support and influence crucial to attaining ownership status of the mineral deposit and other crucial regulatory approvals.
The consensus among presenters seems to be that: the investment and operating climate in Russia and ex CIS countries is still difficult but has improved and continues to improve slowly, the geography of the area offers many similar operating challenges to that in Canada, mining investment in the region continues to grow due to an abundance of resources and that leading Russian mining companies are growing their global presence including investments in Canada.
